Integrated Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine Fellowship

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Weill Cornell and Columbia Campuses have joined together to offer a two-year Integrated Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship through the American Board of Internal Medicine Competency-Based Medical Education pilot program.

The integrated fellowship combines resources from the existing Geriatrics Fellowship and Palliative Medicine Fellowship programs to meet core competency requirements in addition to allowing for five months of scholarly activity and professional development. Upon completion of the integrated fellowship, graduates are board-eligible in both geriatrics and hospice and palliative medicine.

Rotations

Fellows rotate through the following institutions and sites:

• NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Acute Care for Elders Unit
• NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Palliative Care Consultation Service
• NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital: Pediatric Palliative Care
• Center on Aging
• The EGL Charitable Foundation Medical House Call Program in Memory of Clara Elizabeth Scheuermann
• Mary Manning Walsh 
• Visiting Nursing Service Hospice
• Calvary Hospital

Teaching

Fellows participate in curriculum that includes didactics in Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Medicine.

Research

Fellows have the opportunity to participate in a variety of quality improvement and clinical research initiatives underway within the Weill Cornell Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine and Columbia University Department of Medicine. Both sites are leading research innovations across the field of geriatrics and palliative medicine.

How to Apply

Candidates for this fellowship are required to complete three years of internal medicine or family medicine residency training at an accredited program within the United States before the start of the fellowship program. 

We will accept one fellow each year into the Integrated Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  We select fellows through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
