New Integrated Palliative Care Psychiatry Program
Weill Cornell Medicine is now offering specialized mental health services embedded within the interdisciplinary outpatient palliative care program under Dr. Daniel Shalev, a board-certified consultation-liaison psychiatrist and palliative medicine physician.
Nationally, few palliative care programs have embedded psychiatrists. This new initiative, also a training site for residents and a part of the research program on Investigation of Mental Health, Palliative Care, and Aging Collaboration and Therapeutics (IMPACT), combines psychiatric and palliative care expertise to help meet the mental health needs of Weill Cornell patients with serious illnesses like cancer and heart failure, providing short and long-term psychiatric treatment and advancing the education of other psychiatry and palliative care clinicians.
This unique program at Weill Cornell helps ensure that patients truly receive comprehensive, holistic palliative care that addresses their physical, spiritual, and mental health needs at the very highest level.
