Concerned about Elder Abuse? What You Need to Know

June 15th, 2025, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – an internationally recognized day to acknowledge and understand elder abuse and its implications for older adults around the world. This is what you need to know if you are concerned about someone who may be impacted by elder abuse.
The Center on Elder Abuse Solutions (CEASe) at Weill Cornell Medicine serves concerned persons in the lives of older adults impacted by elder abuse through the Elder Abuse Helpline for Concerned Persons. CEASe acknowledges the devastation and loss to individuals, families, and society when an older adult is affected by elder abuse. Older adults deserve to live without fear and harm.

What is the Helpline?
If you are concerned about an adult (60 years or over) possibly being harmed or neglected financially, physically, emotionally, or sexually, the Elder Abuse Helpline for Concerned Persons is here to help. The Helpline is available to discuss your concerns and give you referrals for services for yourself and the older adult you are calling about. The Helpline number is 844-746-6905. Services are available in English and Spanish.
How do I know if I should reach out?
Family members, friends, or neighbors often face significant uncertainty, anxiety, and stress when encountering the possibility of elder abuse. Even if you’re not sure if someone you know is being impacted by elder abuse, the Helpline can provide free and confidential support. Their role is to provide supportive counseling for concerned persons, information about elder abuse, and guidance to help plan next steps.
